Our Redeemer is a
loving congregation, blessed with
vitality...
Come
Visit With Us!
Our Lord, Jesus Christ
commanded us:
"Therefore go
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the
age."
Matthew 28:
19-20.
We take
the Great Commission very seriously at Our Redeemer and
thank the Lord that He has provided the means to accomplish
this: the Word, the Sacraments,
and...

Our Ministries To Our
Family:
|
|
It is through our
ministries, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that we
reach out to the community hoping to bring the good news of
Jesus Christ to those who most need it. In order to do this,
we must work, first to insure the love, vigor, strength, and
stability of our congregation, so that secondly, and
ultimately, we can reach out to the community to serve
them, minister to them, and lead them closer to our
Savior.

Children and
Youth:
Our
Children and Youth are so important to our congregation
and the future of God's work on earth that we have
included a separate page devoted just to our ministry to
these, Jesus' most ardent disciples. Please visit
our Children
and Youth Page.

Education:
|
|

|
Sunday
School: Sunday
School begins with a general gathering of devotion, prayer,
praise hymns, fellowship, and celebration of individual
special events and milestones followed by classes for all
ages every Sunday. Click
here for
Times.
Confirmation:
We have two years of Confirmation Classes for our Junior
High youth and allow Early Communion, with pastoral and
parental approval, after suitable training. We schedule
Adult Confirmation classes as needed, and would love to have
one going all the time!
|
Adult
Education:
We try to have choices in Sunday School classes for
adults at all times and sometimes use inter-generational
classes to advantage. From time to time we schedule
special Bible and training classes of an extended nature,
such as "The Bethel Bible Series". Scheduled on demand,
these classes are frequently held at special
times.
Home Bible
Study: We
have several on-going Bible classes held in member's
homes throughout the Jackson area. The times, meeting
day, location, and frequency varies, so please check with
the Church Office for current information.

Worship:
|
Services:
We offer
both Traditional and Contemporary Services. The
Traditional service uses the Litugy of our childhood from
"Lutheran Worship" in all its reverence and majesty . The
Worship and Praise service is similar, although it is
continually evolving. It combines the parts we love so
well from our traditions with newer Praise Hymns, special
music, and flexible Liturgy. In both services a
Children's Sermon is featured on the Sundays that we do
not have Communion. Communion Services are held the
first, third, and fifth Sundays each month and some
festival days. Click
Here for
Times.
|
|
Special Services:
During the
appropriate seasons we have Lenten services, Ash
Wednesday with optional Imposition of Ashes, Holy Week
including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday noon and Tenabrae
services, Easter Sunrise services, and Advent services.
On Christmas we have 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM Christmas Eve
services with special music and worship, a particularly
meaningful and moving occasion for everyone. As needs
arise other special services are scheduled.

|
Music:
|
Adult
Choir:
Our adult
choir offers praise in song weekly during the second
service and for special events, cantatas, and services.
Its members often individually provide special music for
the early service. We welcome all new voices with open
arms. Come offer praise with us!
Praise Teams:
Our Youth
leaders are forming Youth Praise Teams in both Drama,
Puppet Ministry, Dance, and Music to foster interest,
growth, and outreach among our young people and those of
the community. We are also have formed a church-wide
Praise Team to spread the good news of Christ in
contemporary media for special events and our Worship and
Praise Service. This project is still in its infancy, and
if you are accessible to the Jackson area and want to use
your talents for Christ's glory, come join us and help
this worthy effort grow!
Children's
Choir:
We have had
a talented and beautiful Children's Choir for many years.
Active in services and special events including District
Convocations, these adorable Cherubim have brought smiles
and inspiration to many souls. (And provided many
graduates to the Adult Choir over the
years!)

Caring:
|
|

|
Prime Timers:
We have an
active and on-going ministry among our senior members and
friends. Monthly luncheons are held with interesting progams
and fellowship. Special activities and outings are planned
along with visits, support, and assistance in special times
of need.
|
Special Needs:
Despite
anyone's best efforts, members sometimes find themselves
in a crisis situation. Sometimes it is easily solved,
needing just a little physical help or advice and our
members are always ready to step in and offer assistance.
Sometimes more is needed though, and we have two active
programs to fulfill these needs. Donations provide a
special fund to assist members in financial emergencies.
For situations of a continuing nature we have "Luther's
Larder" which provides donated food monthly for member
families during periods of need.
Social
Ministry:
Fellowship
outside the worship setting with other Christians in a
relaxed situation is important if we are to grow in
Christ and bond as brothers and sisters in His love. Our
Social Ministry program provides these opportunities in
our Fellowship Program regularly, as well as
administering other vital programs, such as the Prime
Timers, Luther's Larder, and the annual Blood
Drive.
Special
Friends:
We have
instituted a special program to welcome new members into
our family, help them meet other friends at Our Redeemer,
learn all they need to know about us, escort them to
church events, and help them come to feel immersed in our
family as quickly as possible. These good people also
make sure newcomers to the area learn their way around,
receive any help they need, and quickly come to feel at
home in the area.

Our
Ministries To The Community:
|
|
|
Caring In The
Community:
|
|
|
Nursing
Homes: A
group of dedicated members in our congregation have for
years maintained an active program of visitation and love
for residents of surrounding community nursing homes.
These ladies and gentlemen provide attention,
entertainment, and caring for the residents, small gifts
for special occaisions, along with help and the
understanding that these often lonely ones may need.
Angel
Tree:
Every
Christmas our members provide gifts for the children of
people in prison, who cannot give their children gifts
themselves. Of course the scope of this program is
limited by our resources, but it is part of a larger
area-wide program, and if you think about it, even one
Christmas morning smile would be worth the
effort.
Lutheran
Social Services of Ms
Inc:
For larger
needs beyond our resources we support our local chapter
of Lutheran Social Services with regular donations and
use of our facilities and human resources for special
programs, such as Project Hope, a past project which
trained welfare mothers for jobs where they could build
self-esteem as well as support themselves.
Other Social
Programs:
Members and
groups in our church at various times are active in
area-wide humanitarian efforts such as Stew Pot, Habitat
For Humanity, and similar programs.
|
|
|
Outreach:
|
Evangelism
Programs:
Our
Evangelism Committee is active in fostering progams to
encourage visitors to return regularly, and to reach the
unchurched in our community, especially in surrounding
neighborhoods, such Ebuipping to Share,, Health Fairs,
and our Synod's
Ablaze!
movement. We offer a warm welcome to everyone who enters
our doors. As a point of interest,
our
Children's
program
is an
important part of this effort too, because sooner or
later, the children we reach often bring their parents.
|

|
Missionaries:
We provide
partial support for missionary families working in
undeveloped lands. This vital work helps ensure that
God's Word is taught to all the nations in words they can
understand.
Braille
Bibles:
For many
years a group of dedicaticated volunteers has met weekly
or more often at Our Redeemer preparing braille Bibles in
foreign languages. They hand press each page to emboss
it, and lovingly assemble them into chapters for shipment
to help the blind in other countries.
