What We Believe

Whoever you are and wherever you have been, you are welcome at Our Redeemer. Below is what we believe, in the words of Scripture and of our church body, The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (ESV)

 

The Good News

“As Lutherans, we put the proclamation of the Gospel — the atoning work of Jesus Christ — at the forefront of all we believe and practice.”

“The forgiveness of sins is not something we can earn; rather, it was earned for us by Jesus Christ, true God and true man, by His crucifixion and death undertaken on behalf of us and our sin. Jesus rose again on Easter and later ascended into heaven, where He reigns and from which He will return on the Last Day to judge the living and the dead. In the meantime, this forgiveness of Christ’s is a free gift to all who desire it.”

God’s Word

“The Bible is the true and trustworthy Word of God that records God’s love for the world through His Son, Jesus.” “The LCMS believes that the Bible is unlike any other book, namely, it is the inspired and inerrant Word of God.”

Baptism

“Baptism is a Sacrament, a physical means established by Christ to give salvation.”

What Does “Lutheran” Mean?

“The biblical teachings of Martin Luther and his fellow reformers were, after his death, collected in the Lutheran Confessions.” LCMS congregations believe these Confessions, gathered in the 1580 Book of Concord, are a correct presentation of what the Bible teaches.

The Apostles’ Creed

The faith-based doctrine of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church is underscored in the words of the Apostles’ Creed:

​

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

​

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

 

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

 

Statement Regarding Communion

We believe that in the Sacrament of Holy Communion Christ gives His true body and blood in, with and under the form of bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins. We believe Jesus is truly present in the Sacrament, and as we come in faith to receive it, we receive Him. Scripture tells us that those who commune without recognizing the Lord’s body, eat and drink judgement on themselves. (I Corinthians 11:27-29)

 

Baptized and believing Christians who share our confession of faith are welcome guests at the Altar. We view the Sacrament with great joy and seriousness, and we ask you to regard it that way also. The Pastor would be glad to answer any questions relating to our faith or practice. Children not confirmed or those not communing are welcome to come and receive a blessing. They are asked to keep their hands down by their side. May His body and blood strengthen and preserve your faith in the Savior!
